“High Achiever,” “The Wife Between Us,” and a yummy recipe

Hello and Happy Sunday!  I am up before the rest of my house and it’s gloriously quiet.  Since we chatted last, I have gotten an Ipsy bag and read 2 books.  I know, I know, I should have written sooner, but these quiet moments are getting more and more illusive.

The two books, really couldn’t be more different, and that’s what makes them fun.  High Achiever: The Shocking True Story of One Addict’s Double Life is written by the hilarious blogger Tiffany Jenkins, of Juggling The Jenkins Blog.  The story about her life as a recovering addict is really good.  It really is “shocking,” as the title says.  Like the fact that she was dating a sheriff, while she was an addict.  It’s a super fast read, and even though the writing is sub-par, the story makes up for it.  I do think it’s for fans of Tiffany Jenkins, and if you haven’t seen her hilarious videos, you may not be as entertained by the book.  So basically, if you don’t already follow her blog, do it now.  And order the book on Amazon.  By the time it comes, you will be ready for her crazy.

The Wife Between Us: A Novel is SO GOOD.  You guys, I had to chose between watching the latest episode of This is Us, my favorite show in the world right now that hasn’t been on in over a month, and this book.  I chose to finish this book, before I watched it.  Yep, it’s that good of a book.  I NEEDED to know what was going on.  Just when I thought I knew, I realized I in fact did not.  So if you like your books to be as predictable as a Hallmark Christmas movie, this book is not for you.  But if you like to get sucked into a whole lot of plot twists and turns, get this book right now.  I read it in 3 days, with a whole lot of other things going on, because I needed to know how it ended.

Do you Ipsy?  I love surprises.  Ipsy tries to tell me what’s in the monthly bag ahead of time, but I ignore that email.  For $10 a month, Ipsy sends a cute makeup bag filled with 5 items.  Some are full size, some are samples.  I love trying new things, so I think it’s fun to be able to sample and then if I love, buy at a discount on their website.  This month, the bag itself would look perfect in a gym bag.  I don’t own one, but it almost makes me want to get one.  Here’s a link to see exactly what was in the bag: BlessedAF Beauty

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a recipe, and I just got a new favorite one from a friend of mine.  You know that yummy curry chicken salad from the fancy deli counters?  That’s one of my favorites, and now I have the recipe to share with you lovelies.

“Exotic Chicken Salad”

  • 4 cups cooked, shredded chicken (get a rotisserie chicken & live your life)
  • 1 lb seedless green grapes, halved
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 4 oz. sliced water chestnuts, chopped up
  • 1/2 cups sliced almonds
  • 1 1/2 cups mayo
  • 1/2 Tablespoon curry
  • 1/2 Tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice

Throw the first 5 ingredients in a bowl.  Combine the last four in a separate bowl, then toss in with the first 5.  Refrigerate overnight and you have yourself a super yummy chicken salad.  I have been making chicken wraps with it, using a whole wheat tortilla and some romaine.

Side note, current fave protein shake is Premier Protein 30g Protein Shake, Caramel, 12 Count.  Have you tried them??  First, I have to say the flavor is a bit more butterscotch than caramel, which is super okay with me.  30 grams of protein, only 1 gram of sugar, and it tastes AMAZING.  Like am I being healthy or having a milkshake??  They’re on sale at Costco right now, but also on Amazon all the time, and if you Subscribe and Save, they’re even less.  I am obsessed with them.

Hope you all have had a fantastic weekend!  What are you reading?
