A couple years ago, I had to stop drinking coffee because my stomach got really sensitive. I really like the way it smells, and I did enjoy the taste, but I had to say good bye 😦
About a month ago, I heard about making cold brew toddy. I looked into it because I love iced coffees, all the time, but especially in warmer weather. The brewing process makes the coffee less acidic, so I thought I would try it to see if my stomach would be able to deal, and I could get more caffeine than tea because I freakin need it.
I wanted to find one that was inexpensive, but not cheap quality. Also, one that wouldn’t require me to buy filters or other parts on the regular. One purchase, reusable, washable, etc. I also dug through the reviews because stars for sure mean something on Amazon, as well as how many different people have created the rating. Would you believe me if I told you I found one that meets all the requirements, along with being cute, for under $20??
I did! Cold Brew Coffee Maker Kit – 2 Quart (64 ounces) is only $16.99!! The stainless steel, micro mesh filter can be reused. And it can also be used to make iced tea.
So how does it work? Check out the easy instructions.
This is what it looked like right after I added the water. Make sure you pour the water over all the coffee grounds, or they will float and not be part of the brewing party. Violet helped me pick out the coffee. She chose based on the coolest design, and it’s actually a really good blend. Starbucks will grind the coffee for you. They will ask you what number you want it ground to, and I had no idea what the answer was. I explained what I was using it for, and we chose a 5. I think it’s perfect, but if you want it stronger, go with a 4.
And this is how dark it got overnight!
I mixed mine with a little milk and LOVED IT. For science, I tried it on an empty stomach to really put the acidity to the test. I had two glasses, and I was fine! No tummy issues 🙂
There are lots of fancy ones on Amazon, but I think this one does a really good job. It’s not complicated enough to have parts that break. And it is 100% reusable.
